Richard Darnell is a retired professional basketball center who spent one season in the American Basketball Association with the Virginia Squires during the 1975–76 season. He completed his collegiate career at San Jose State University, after two seasons at Cypress College and one season at Indiana State.
Darnell is passionate about his work as a board member of Giving Children Hope ,a nonprofit that provides sustainable hope through the gathering and giving of Medical Resources, Nutritional Foods, and Basic Needs. Darnell has worked with numerous athletic-related organizations. He has been involved with Athletes Against Autism, United Martial Arts for Christ, and LA Legends of Basketball, to name a few. He is the founder and president of Athletes ‘n Education.
Rick Darnell is a true sports enthusiast. As president of the NBA Retired Players Association – LA Chapter, Darnell may have more relationships and more stories about former NBA and ABA players than anyone. He is a mesmerizing storyteller and motivational speaker.
